India inspired me with its vibrant colors, welcoming people, and flavorful food.
India was my first real trip abroad. Before this trip, I had only ever been to the Caribbean and Mexico, but I went when I was young and I went with my parents so I don't think it really counts. This was was my first trip to the other side of the world, and wow was I impressed.
Expressing Gratitude and Welcoming Foreigners
The moment we arrived in India, I felt so welcomed by the people. You wouldn't think that we were strangers, you would think we were long lost family.
I remember when we first arrived to India, i was so confused as to why everyone bobbed their head when responding to me or saying thank you. I had no idea that Indian people did a "head bobble" when expressing gratitude or showing that they understand. Once it was explained to me, I felt compelled to do it to them when expressing gratitude!
Cultural Exchange
Whenever we had a chance to meet Indian college students, we had a blast. We would teach them line dancing like the "Macarena" and "Cotton-Eyed-Joe" and they would teach us their traditional and Bollywood dances. It was amazing to see Indian students dance to American folk dances, and they kept up really well! Us on the other hand, we had some trouble keeping up with their dances, but they still encouraged us nonetheless!
Overall Impression
A country that is bright and full of life!
India is a country that many people believe to be riddled with poverty and pollution. Many people think of India as a place that has yet to catch up to the rest of the world. However, those thoughts and ideas couldn't be further from the truth. India is making great strides towards change, and its power as a nation is building rapidly. This is a country with extraordinary potential, and the people and culture within it are so rich and full of life. The people in India are not sad and they do not need to be "saved". This country was plagued by colonialism for generations and is now standing toe to toe with world superpowers! The people in this country fear nothing and they welcome foreigners. They are excited to share their culture with you and ready to learn about yours. This is a country of people who want change and work for it, and I am so happy to have experienced them first hand.
